School’s in session! The Perfect Wrap Dress class at Sewtropolis

Good morning all you studious, fashion-forward, feathered friends! I don’t know about all of you, but there’s something about slightly cooler nights and Labor Day that makes me want to blow a few hundred dollars on a chemistry text and get a new notebook. For those of you who are long-past school days, but living in or near Minneapolis, you can get your chance to do just that… or almost that. Next week is is the first session of the Perfect Wrap Dress class at Sewtropolis!

During this two session class we’ll make the Crepe dress from Colette Patterns. This is a great dress pattern with clear instructions and fairly simple techniques – perfect for those who have a beginning project or two under your belts and are looking for a new challenge. The dress has a vintage feel with a full skirt, fitted bodice and cute cap sleeves that are super easy to sew up – no setting in required! The best part is that it’s a wrap dress, which makes for easy fitting and the wrap is in the BACK which makes everything feel nice and secure. No embarrassing skirt flapping on the street! Choose a nice, deep jewel tone and wear it with boots and a cardigan and you’ll be set for fall.

As with any new school year, there will be homework involved. Students should come to class with their pattern pieces cut out. Not sure on size? No problem, just drop me an email and I can guide you through it. During session one we cover patterns, cutting, darts, interfacing, making ties and staystitching. Whew!  Session two is where the magic happens and we’ll learn all about facings, understitching and hemming and head home with new dresses.

It looks elegant. I love to wear this dress. It reminds me on my granny before. She always taught me on how to saw beautiful dresses like what you did. Excellent!

If i lived in the area, i would love to come along. sadly though, living on the other side of the world makes it mission impossible! aside from that, can i ask where you got your cardigan from?? i’ve been trawling the internet looking for waist-length cardigans to wear with dresses, and can’t find one! there are lots of long, hip length and crop cardigans but none that sit nicely on the waist like yours does. hope you can help me in my quest for the perfect cardigan :-)
